Our Services
Rehabilitation
Our ethos at Elite Physical Medicine is to tailor our treatment to your aims; whether you seek pain relief or to return back to daily activities. Using Evidence Based Practice we can offer you effective treatment modalities to achieving long-term success in your goals. Whether you are building strength on our Cybex Isokinetic machine post-operatively or developing functional stability using a Bosu ball or Mylokit Slings, our team will keep everything relevant to your needs.
Rehabilitation in some cases can take a few months and requires dedication on your part to take responsibility for your recovery. To ensure you are fully supported we in some cases offer you the opportunity to use our gym facilities to perform your individual programme whilst still gaining input from the team around you. The gym is solely for rehabilitation so it is quiet and non-intimidating as we respect that not everyone enjoys the gym and may be worried about their injury. Intermittent sessions with your Physiotherapist can then modify your programme according to your goals and requirements.
We pride ourselves on offering a welcoming and friendly atmosphere to all our patients and we are always around to assist in any queries you may have.

Functional Movement Screening
Pain and discomfort can disrupt how you move during day-to-day activities and can be the catalyst to seeking physiotherapy. Assessing different functional movements is an important part of targeting any issues. We believe it is important to look at the global interplay between joints and muscles in the body because whether is a participating in a sports match or completing tasks at home, the body needs to work from a stable and controlled base before we focus on strength and power.
Our physiotherapists will screen your movement patterns to ensure we are not only addressing your primary complaint but also any predisposing causes to your discomfort. Adapting how you move can provide long-term pain relief by reducing the negative stress’ through joints and make you move more efficiently. We have helped labourers with shoulder pain return to work by improving their technique of lifting equipment and resources, which has in turn given them the endurance to return to work full time.
So whether you are a new-mother with low back pain, dancer struggling to complete a show or a marathon runner trying to beat your personal best, functional movement screening will be integral to your rehab programme.
Biomechanics and Gait Analysis
Biomechanics is the study of how forces effect the way your skeletal system moves. With musculoskeletal injuries and operations pain can inhibit muscle function, which will not only affect a particular joint but also how your whole body moves. The joints in your body link together to form a chain of movement and your foot position or footwear can play a central role in how forces are dispersed along the chain; most commonly your gait, or running pattern is affected.
At Elite Physical Medicine we use Dartfish Technology to analyse your movement to identify any imbalance between joints or symmetry between affected and non-affected limbs. These objective markers can be a great resource in measuring your progress through your rehabilitation. If required we do offer customised orthotics (insoles) to help adjust your foot biomechanics and thus relieve abnormal pressures in other areas.

Manual Therapy and Electrotherapy
At Elite Physical Medicine our Physiotherapists are all excellent manual therapists. Your Physiotherapists may use a combination of techniques from massage to release tight muscles or break down adhesions or scar tissue, to mobilisations and manipulations to passively increase joint range of motion thus allowing normal function to be restored.
Electrotherapeutic modalities can be a useful tool for pain relief, muscle relaxation and to promote the body’s natural healing processes. We may use a combination of techniques to treat various musculoskeletal pathologies, focusing on both soft tissue and joints. Elite Physical Medicine can offer Interferential Therapy, Ultrasound, Muscle stimulation and TENS (Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation). TENS machines are also available for hire to assist in pain relief between treatment sessions.

Acupuncture
Acupuncture may help relieve symptoms of sports injuries, such as pain and inflammation. It will stimulate nerves located in muscles and other tissues, which leads to release of endorphins and increasing local circulation to help improve muscle and joint stiffness.
Whether you are requesting acupuncture as a treatment in itself or your Physiotherapist suggests it as an additional treatment modality to aid your recovery we can cater to your needs.
