Gabrielle Jackson travelled to Rome to lend her Physiotherapy expertise and support British swimmers at the 2022 Senior Europeans Championships.

Having previously worked for British Gymnastics, Gabs connected with the Team GB Swim Physio and was asked to support the British Swimming Championships in April 2022.

Impressed with her work, Team GB called gabs up again when more hands were needed for the European Championships.

Describing the event, Gabs said:

"The national squads from a number of different counties were there, so the atmosphere was pretty special.
As it was only a week after the Olympics , Team GB had a few swimmers drop out. This meant the squad could welcome some newcomers and was a fantastic opportunity for the team to showcase some up and coming superstars."

Team GB relied on Gabrielle to provide physiotherapy for the squad as required, including injury assessment and treatment throughout the week.

Working closely with the Strength and Conditioning coach, Gabs helped to prepare the swimmers and optimise their recovery, communicating closely with the coaches to keep them informed of any change in status.

The squad welcomes her new ideas for how they could improve athlete preparations for future competitions.

Gabs said:

"In the 38 degree heat it was important to keep water and ice available for the athletes. It's not the most glamourous part of the role, but in those conditions it's vital to the success of the team."

As always, Gabs loved being part of the team and got on well with all of the swimmers and coaches.

Despite the hard work, long hours and time away from the clinic, this was a great opportunity for one of our key team members to gain further understanding and experience of how an elite team works.

Gabrielle recently graduated from University College London with a Masters in Sports Medicine.
