Manual therapy is hands on treatment provided by a physiotherapist. Treatment may include moving joints in specific directions to promote movement and decrease stiffness.

Selected soft tissue techniques such as massage or muscle stretching may be used to increase the length of tight or restricted muscle groups, thereby improving the mobility and function of tissue and muscles.

Passive movements take the affected joint through its range of movement to promote recovery. Having the patient move the body part against the physiotherapist’s resistance to improve muscle activation and timing can be used in addition to the above.
