Elite Physical Medicine recently delivered an engaging running workshop at Forest House Health Club, led by two of our specialist clinicians, Andy McCrea and Laura Fernandez. The session focused on how structured testing can be used to assess running performance, reduce injury risk and guide tailored rehabilitation planning.

As part of the workshop, participants completed drop jump and countermovement jump (CMJ) assessments using VALD ForceDecks technology, the same objective testing system used in elite sport. These measurements offer highly accurate insight into symmetry, power, landing strategy and biomechanical efficiency, allowing our clinicians to track progress and tailor individual rehabilitation programmes.

Andy and Laura discussed how specific force metrics can be used not only to identify injury risk but also to guide each stage of recovery. This helps ensure that every athlete is progressing safely and effectively, while building the physical qualities required for long-term performance.

One of the highlights of the session was the variety of athletes attending. We welcomed Hyrox competitors, recreational runners, a participant returning from hip injury and someone post-surgery, showing just how adaptable these assessments can be. After an initial screening, each athlete had their testing protocol adjusted to suit their ability, stage of rehab and personal goals.

“It was fantastic to work with such a mixed group of runners – each at a different point in their journey. Performance testing shouldn’t just be for elite athletes. When used well, it gives everyday people the same advantages when it comes to staying healthy and injury-free,” said Laura.

Elite Physical Medicine continues to expand community education and performance support across Watford and the surrounding area, and further running-focused sessions are planned over the coming months.

Members of Forest House Health Club – and runners from the wider Watford community – are invited to register interest for future workshops.
